  16. Okay, on the brink of the SJ IETF meeting, it seems a good time to
  17. review the progress of this Fall, particularly with respect to our charter.
  18.  
  19. So, first of all, congratulations to everybody for a very productive
  20. Fall;  the document editors have been working _very_ hard, and people
  21. have been unstinting in their generous, and constructive,  commentary.   
  22.  
  23. We now have drafts of:

  25.     . URN Framework and Requirements (soon to be published)
  26.     . URN Syntax
  27.     . NAPTR proposed implementation
  28.     . HTTP resolution conventions
  29.  
  30. we are _that_ close to having something that can actually be deployed
  31. in a test-fashion.

  33. Ah, yes, there is one thing missing: a namespace.
  34.  
  35. On previous occasions, one or more people have suggested that they would
  36. be willing to work on the definition of a new namespace, or on the 
  37. use of an existing namespace in the URN context ("grandfathering").  Now
  38. that the syntax is settling down, I would appreciate volunteers and
  39. proposals for namespaces -- please send mail to me, and I will summarize
  40. to the list.

  42. The agenda for the San Jose meeting is pretty straightforward -- there
  43. will be time to talk about specific issues with individual drafts, assessing
  44. where we are, and determining how to tackle the remaining required drafts
  45. (read:  flushing out volunteers, if none are evident before then :-)
